Slot Car Night 2008

The area was filled with vintage cars. An RS Spyder in one row, a 908 and 910 in another. Look a little further, and you found a 962, a 917, and Porsche Cup Cars. The Parnelli Jones Trans Am Mustang was there as was an F1 Panasonic Toyota driven by Jarno Trulli. No, this wasn't the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, it was the Chesapeake Region annual Slot Car Night.

Slot Car Night is special because kids and adults alike get to play, and each year it gets a little better. This year was no exception as it was the best attended Slot Car Night to date, raising $640 to benefit the Susan Cohan Kasdas Colon Cancer Foundation.

Dena Love once again arranged for us to use Pinewood Elementary School, and she and Gene Fierro supplied us with lots of hot dogs. Manny and Roxanne Alban handled registration and made sure we had plenty of the usual goodies and a great selection of chili, beef barbecue, and chicken wings. Ron Kruger, with his sons Luke and Sam, and Claude Taylor were there early to help with the often tricky job of getting the track to work perfectly. Bob Gutjahr masterfully directed the kids events, and Ron Kruger ran much of the adult races.
