PCA
- Chesapeake Region -
The dreadful April tax deadline has come and gone
and now we all have a reprieve for another year!
Hopefully, you have been attending the many Club
events to take you mind off of that annual drudgery.
We
held a very successful New Member Party at Porsche
of Towson with all of our New Members participating
in a People's Choice car show and receiving a goodies
bag with a lucky "golden" key chain worth a $100
gift certificate for any product or service at Porsche
of Towson. Irfan Alvi was the lucky recipient! Thanks
to Alan Skulsky and Donna Turnbaugh for handling
registration, Michael Murphy and Steve Graham for
directing traffic and setting up the People's Choice
Car Show, Bernie and Jan Blain for picking up the
refreshments, Cheryl Taylor for ordering the refreshments
and of course our Host, Steve Postol, Sales Manager
for Porsche of Towson. Thanks to the Board Members
and Committee Chairs for coming out to welcome our
new Members to the Club and describing what each
of the committees offers to enhance the "Member
Experience".
Dan
Dazzo held a riveting Chalk Talk on Autocrossing
on Friday, April 20th. Claude Taylor offered an
invitation to the PCA - Potomac and he had a very
full room of interested Members who wanted to know
how to get the most out of their Porsches.
The
first Autocross of the year was held the next day
with a great turn-out! Thanks to Claude and Rick
Merriken, John Jensen, and Rick MacInnes for all
the work they have done behind the scenes to make
the Autocross a first class event. I heard we had
a few newcomers who are catching the autocross bug.
As
you know, this Club is completely volunteer run.
We depend on your help and ideas to keep our events
alive and thriving. We are fortunate to have three
new volunteers take on the Tech Chair positions,
Greg Martell, Doug Ehmann and Rob Mairs. I have
had the opportunity to speak with each one of these
gentlemen and am wowed by their experience and knowledge
and know you will be too! They have inherited last
year's calendar and are fast at work filling those
dates with fun and educational sessions. Keep an
eye out for the upcoming Tech Session calendar.
If
you have seen our website recently, you will have
witnessed the unbelievable hard work of Gloria Merriken.

Thanks
to Michael Murphy and Steve Graham for a good start
to the largest east coast Porsche-only Swap Meet
in Hershey with a breakfast and a Porsche Caravan.
Another great turn-out and we were joined by PCA
National President Manny Alban and the National
Secretary, Caren Cooper. Manny even came to the
rescue of Patricia Bender whose 911 Cab was a quart
low on oil. We are a full service Club!
The
more I attend PCA events, the more I recognize the
diversity of our Members. Whether it be Members
who have been with the Club for 50 + years of if
they joined last week, whether they have 1950's
era air-cooled Porsche 356s or 2012 911s, Cayennes,
Caymans, Boxsters or Panameras or anything in-between,
we are fortunate to have one of the best Clubs around.
The Board and Committee Chairs work hard to offer
opportunities for everyone to attend an engaging
event.
I hope that you attend one soon and even better
yet, volunteer for one and join in the fun! Keep
an eye on the PCA calendar and my email blasts for
upcoming events.
Share the passion!
David Dukehart, President
