President's Message
Hello again fellow Porschefilles,
Well another month has past us by and the not so good weather is still holding on. I just came back from a great weekend at VIR. We were there for the Zone 2 DE which aside from a rainy start turned out to be a wonderful weekend. It was very nice to see all the Chesapeake members there. I think we continue to have one of the largest turnouts from any single region. If you haven't done a DE or even if you have and haven't been to VIR I strongly suggest doing both. The facilities at VIR are first class and the track is fabulous. It was really cool to spend the weekend with a newbee, Drew Hollingsworth and his wife Karen. The enthusiasm that Drew showed every time he went on and came off the track made the whole trip worthwhile. Even though Karen didnt drive the same can be said for her as well. I also met plenty of other folks who were there doing their first DE and they were just as thrilled. It really is a life changing experience and I encourage everyone to try it at least once. If you think that a DE may be too much for you then certainly try auto crossing. Again if you haven't done it youll love it and in either case, autocross or DE, I would strongly encourage you to first attend the autocross school that we have coming up soon. This will give you an idea of what you should expect once you get to the track. One last note on the Zone 2 VIR DE. As I mentioned in the last Patter month, all the proceeds from the Charity laps were going to be donated to the Susan Cohan Kasdas Colan Cancer Foundation in memory of Lynn Eckels. I'm happy to announce that as it stands right now it looks like weve raised somewhere in the neighborhood of $2000. I will update everyone next month as to the final tally once I receive it. On behalf of the Region I want to personally thank everyone who donated to this very worthwhile cause.
The region also put on a very successful new members party a couple of weeks ago. I would like to thank everyone who helped with this event especially our outgoing Membership Chair, John Cochran. Huge thanks also go out to Dan Dazzo and Dennis Howard for securing the Maryland State Police training facility. What a great place to put on this kind of event. This will also be the setting for the autocross school and Dan will be one of the folks helping with the training. For those of you that dont know Dan he is the person in charge of the Maryland State Police training facility and is also their lead instructor. How better to teach you how to really drive a car.
Believe it or not it is becoming driving weather and it will soon be time for the region to put on its premier event the Chesapeake Challenge. The Challenge will be held at Ripken Stadium this year and from what I've heard from the Chairman, Joe Zuramski, it sounds like its going to be another huge success. Please keep an eye on the Patter as well as the website for further updates.
Dont forget to volunteer when you can!! I hope to see you at an event soon!!
Thanks, Tim
