President's Message
Hello again fellow Porschefilles,
Well we made it back from Parade. I can say that I'm very jealous of the people who are lucky enough to not only live in southern California but for those that do so and also own a Porsche are doubly lucky. What a beautiful part of the country. My family and I had a wonderful time. We got to do a lot of sight seeing and the venues that were used for the events were very nice. Its hard to put in words sitting on the flight deck of the USS Midway with 1500 people overlooking the San Diego harbor at sunset with the ship all lit up in ever changing colors and the awesome array of fighter plans surrounding a Porsche Penskie Spyder. That was the venue of the Victory banquet which ended the week in a very big way. All in all a well done Parade and special thanks goes out to all the volunteers that made it happen. If you haven't made it to a Porsche Parade yet keep your eye on the website and mark your calendar for next year. I think this next one will be pretty cool since the venue is Charlotte North Carolina, home of NASCAR, and from what I understand there will be a DE included which will be held at Lowes Motor Speedway. It will be an easier trip for all of us here in the Chesapeake region so I hope to see a lot of you there.
While we were away I understand many of you took part in the Covered Bridge Tour that Ken Bolough put together. From all accounts it was a huge success and I'm glad to say that Ken is putting together another tour as we speak. Thanks to Ken, his wife Gina and all of those who helped make this such a big hit. Sorry I missed this one but I hope to make the next.
Unfortunately I also missed the Crab Feast which I also hear was a huge success as usual. Ellen Beck did a wonderful job, again, putting on a great event. My wife Kim and our two boys reported that the crabs were great and the shrimp were huge and very good as well. Unfortunately Ellen has reported that she wont be able to chair next years Crab feast so if there is anyone out there willing and able to follow in her foot steps please drop me a line and let me know. Keep in mind that the venue on these events can be changed as well so if you have some place else that you think might be a good place to hold an event please dont hesitate to speak up.
The reason for my absence from the Crab Feast was that I was out at Putnam Park Indiana for a Club Race. I was joined there by fellow Chesapeake member Mark Lee, part time Chesapeake member, and National DE Chair, Pete Tremper and we joined Eric Allen who now lives in Indianapolis. Aside for some major clutch issues that took Pete out after his second practice session the weekend was a very good time. Once again the racing gods shined down on all of us and everyone came home with their cars in tact. Aside from a couple of DE days the next stop on the racing trail is Summit Point in the beginning of October. I'm going to talk to Ken to see if he can put together a tour that will end up at Summit Point so we can get some spectators out to this event. I know I've said it before but if you haven't been to a Club Race you really should treat yourself at least once. It really is pretty cool seeing all of these beautiful Porsches in full race regalia.
Dont forget to register for the premier event of the year, The Chesapeake Challenge, which will be coming up in September. Check out the web site for more info and an overview of the event.
Hope to see you all soon!!!
Tim
