President's Message
I mentioned in last month's message that I had started autocrossing in 1997. I was active through the 2005 season, being known to many as "the tech guy". Marking time is a bit scary, because it doesn't seem that long ago that Manny Alban, Tim Eisel, and I were swapping top three positions with each run in our 914s at one of the Challenge events held in the Dorsey MARC train lot. For Tim and I, Manny was the guy to beat, and it didn't happen often.
I had a chance to once again feel the adrenaline as I drove my 944 through the cones during setup for this year's Autocross School. What a blast!
We had perfect weather for this year's event, and the students enjoyed themselves while learning critical driving skills. Exercises included skid pad, slaloms, and a variety of gate arrangements. Thanks to Don Malson, the Autocross Team, and everyone else who helped to run this top-notch event. Thanks also to Dan Dazzo for arranging for us to use the Maryland State Police Training Facility. Watch the Patter and the web site (pcachs.org) for an upcoming announcement of autocross dates for this season.
Next month, I'll be writing about a first experience for me: a Chesapeake Region tour. Stay tuned.
Andrew
