President's Message
Linda and I experienced out first Parade last month in Charlotte. It was a blast!
I didn't quite know what to expect going in. If it was anything, I thought the entire Parade universe would center around cars. Looking at cars, talking about cars, driving cars, etc. Strange, I know. And while the cars were a significant part of it, the larger part concerned relationships old and new. The PCA tag line, "It's not just the cars...it's the people!" was embodied in this event.
Roughly forty Chesapeake Region members made the trek south for a week of competitive and social events. I have met most of them already, but there were several who introduced themselves, talked with me a bit, and took time to give me some ideas for club events. That's the part of the presidency I enjoy most - meeting members.
Oh yeah, there was some really cool car stuff too. The historic display in the convention center put cars I had only read about in front of my very eyes. The Lowenbrau 962, the 1974 911 Turbo RSR, the Sunoco 917/30, the 924 GTP LeMans...need I go on?
One of the true highlights for me was listening to Norbert Singer talk about the 956 project. His humor in typical understated German style makes the otherwise mundane technical discussion into a an enjoyable story. He generously made himself available to sign books and other items.
Ron Gordon told me after the President's Social that I'm hooked. I think he's right, although I'm not sure I'm headed to Colorado for next year's event. We'll see.
Andrew
