President's Message

Spring is officially here!

It's time to get your Porsche out of hiding.  We've got a lot of great events in store for this year, and your car shouldn't waste time sitting in the garage when it can go out and play with other cars.

Our Autocross Chair, Don Malson, has arranged for a series of seven autocross events taking us all the way to November.  We have some real die-hard autocrossers in the region, so I expect the action will continue to the very end of the season.  The May 16 autocross will be held at the Police Academy Training Facility in Sykesville, MD.   This is a popular venue.  If you haven't been to an autocross yet, I highly recommend you join us for this one.  We'll have a set of recruits fresh from the April 26 Autocross School anxious to hone their skills in battle.

Tourmeister Allen Gunzelman already treated us to five tours and a Cars and Coffee social, and it's only May!  We're sure to see more fun drives from him this season.  Some of the tours in the works are the Ice Cream Cottage Drive, the Arctic Circle Tour, and the Fall Foliage Tour.  Last year's Fall Foliage Tour was the most memorable tour I've been on.  The image of 27 Porsches winding their way through the back roads on a perfect (although a bit blustery) fall day was truly outstanding.   These tours are one of the easiest ways to get the most enjoyment out of your Porsche.

John Patterson, our Tech Chair, lined up two informative and well attended events already this year.  The session at DSI Electronics in Laurel, MD was packed with people learning about audio for their cars.  John has other events on the drawing board, so watch the web site for details.  I may even offer up my garage for a session on 944 maintenance.  If you're thinking that tech sessions aren't for you because you don't work on your own car, then you're missing out on one of the best values the region has to offer.  The information you get from these sessions help you to better understand what you're paying for at the garage and why it's important.

On August 15th, Don and Nancy Malson will once again host the annual Crab Feast at Kemptown Park.  Last year, members were still socializing after 9:00 pm.

Last, but not least, set aside September 26 for the 40th annual Chesapeake Challenge.  Plans are being finalized now, so I won't reveal anything just yet.  I can tell you that it promises to offer an excellent variety of activities in a lovely setting.  I'm very excited about the potential of the selected venue.  Bob Gutjahr and Ellen Beck will once again chair the event, so you know a fabulous time is in store.

This issue of Patter is the final one in print format.  As I mentioned in my article last month, we are moving to an electronic format that will be available online at the web site.  (www.pcachs.org)  Many thanks to Jan Borchardt for her hard work on both the printed and online versions of Patter.  Her dedication and hard work on what is likely the toughest position on the Chesapeake Region board bring us the news each and every month.
