President's Message

The trees are almost bare and the holidays are just around the corner, but that doesn't mean we're done with events yet.  We're rounding out the year with events into early December.  Now there's bang for your buck!

Allen Gunzelman and Rob Vigorito are taking us on the Blackwater Wildlife Refuge Tour on November 8th.  Rob took us on this tour about four years ago, and he offered to plan it again this year.  Maryland's Eastern Shore offers great sightseeing at the refuge.  I'm sure this will be another fun tour.

The next event is our last autocross of the season, which will be held at the Police Academy Training Facility in Sykesville on November 14th. Don Malson has worked hard to bring us a full series of events alternating between the Sykesville location and the Dorsey MARC lot.  Regulars and new recruits alike have come out to enjoy driving their Porsches as they were designed to be driven.  After taking a few years off from autocross, these events have been refreshing for me.

On December 5th we have not one, but two tours planned.  Allen Gunzelman is taking us on the first one to benefit the Toys for Tots Literacy Program.  The tour will start in Bel Air at the Starbucks on Marketplace Drive at 9:30 AM and end at the UPS Store in the Honeygo Village Center.  There will be a lunch/happy hour at Libratore's Restaurant directly across from the store following the tour.

In the evening of the 5th, we're co-hosting a tour with the Potomac Region to the Annual Antietam National Battlefield Memorial Illumination. The event is held in honor of the 23,000 soldiers who fell during the Battle of Antietam.  The evening will begin with dinner at the Comus Inn at Sugarloaf Mountain in Montgomery County at 7:00 PM with cars leaving for the tour at 9:00 PM.  We should be done around 11:00 PM.  It's a late night, but the sight of the thousands of luminaries is worth the loss of a bit of sleep.

So that covers it for this calendar year, but remember, events start early next year after a short break for the holidays.  The After Holiday Party, to be held at the Loews Annapolis Hotel, is scheduled for January 9th and the next weekend will be our Annual Slot Car Night on January 16th.

I hope to see you at an event soon.

Andrew
