What
is a Rally?
A road rally is a competitive driving event in which the
participants navigate a pre-determined route trying to
stay on course and on the correct time schedule. One type
of rally is the time-speed-distance (TSD) rally, where
the route instructions are plain, with correct mileage
and elapsed time given. Cars are sent off in one or two
minute intervals to avoid following each other and copying
answers. The challenge is to drive the exact route at
the exact speed in the exact time, not too fast, not too
slow. The winner is the closest to the correct mileage
and time. Another type of rally is the gimmick rally,
such as photo rally (turns and landmarks are shown in
photos supplied to each car), question-and-answer rally
(questions are given, in any order, with answers supplied
along the way by each car. For example, What year was
St. Pauls church built ?, What is sold at the Sugar
Shack ?, What is the address of Fire Company 12 ?). The
winning team must provide the most correct answers and
report the correct mileage, while time is not a factor.
Both driver and navigator are involved in staying on course
and having a great time. In all cases, all traffic and
safety laws must be observed at all times this
is NOT a race.

What
is a Tour?
A tour event is a non-competitive driving event in which
all cars leave together and follow plain directions and
each other to some pre-determined location. Usually the
destination is a restaurant or ice cream stand or other
place of interest. The rally may be held on a summers
weekday evening and only takes about 30-45 minutes to
complete. The objective is to have a leisurely drive enjoying
the cars, the scenery, a beautiful evening, and some good
food and company.
